Massage + Insurance

Maya works very hard to ensure your insurance benefits can help you pay for message therapy and has a preferred provider contract with Regence. She accepts most major insurance carriers for massage. Not all policies cover massage; if you aren’t sure your insurance carrier covers massage therapy, check with your insurance company before booking. Maya can also provide you with the necessary ‘super bill’ receipt if you prefer to file with your insurance company for reimbursement yourself.

Does my insurance cover massage?
While some insurance plans cover massage therapy, there are typically restrictions. For example, some plans cover massage only if prescribed or a referral is given by a chiropractor or physician. You should be able to determine if your insurance covers massage therapy by taking a closer look at your health insurance policy or, call them and ask. Sometimes the policy will have chiropractic care, physical therapy, and manual therapy grouped together.

What insurance plans do you accept for massage?
Maya accepts insurance coverage by Regence and all branches thereof, Bluecross/Blueshield, Cigna, Bridgespan, UMR (contract is pending), and MVA. Don’t see your insurance plan listed, but know that it covers massage therapy? Contact us and let us know! Certain insurance companies never cover massage: Bluecross/Blueshield of Idaho, Medicare, Medicaid, and Military insurance policies to name a few.

Do I need a referral from my doctor or chiropractor?
You do need a referral from your doctor or chiropractor for some plans to qualify for massage coverage. This referral may outline the number of sessions and other medical concerns. Other policies will grant a certain number of massages per year before requiring a referral from a doctor.

Are automobile accidents covered?
If you are in a automobile accident and you report soft tissue injury as part of your claim, you may qualify for massage therapy services covered by your insurance. Talk to your claims adjuster when reporting your injury. You will need a referral from your doctor or chiropractor for a specific massage treatment plan.
